The Reopening of East London’s Art Centre

Choosing where to locate your ideal flat just got that bit easier, as The Savoy theatre had a reopening under its new name The Hackney Arts Centre (HAC) on the 14th of February. The XL recordings label owner, Richard Russell blessed the stage, performing his new album ‘Everything is Recorded’, accompanied by the likes of Sampha, Ibeyi and Kamasi Washington. The venue hadn’t seen daylight since the mid-nineties, but after much anticipation and campaigning from Village Underground, it has received funding in the region of £2 million from the Big Issue Invest, The Arts Impact Fund and Tridos Bank. The (HAC) will be working with anything from music and theatre to lectures, cultural events and creative education programmes, in a bid to promote Hackney as a key player in the world of performing arts.

For more info about the project go to the Hackney Arts Centre, or check out RA’s video inside the abandoned theatre. Fancy a pad nearby? Check out our rooms to rent in Hackney for some ideas.
