7 European City Breaks You Haven’t Thought Of

#1 – Cologne, Germany

Cologne is Germany’s fourth largest city, rich in history and set on the banks of the Rhine. Marvel at the famous Gothic cathedral with its imposing twin spires, and catch the best view over the city from the KölnTriangle skyscraper. For art-lovers there’s the modern art gallery Museum Ludwig, with a permanent collection reflecting the most important artistic trends from the last century. After a day of wandering around the Altstadt (Old Town) and meandering through market squares, grab a bite to eat at one of the great taverns on the Alter Markt square and head to Papa Joe’s Jazz Lokal for the best live jazz and local Kölsch beer.
