#6 – Gdansk, Poland
Located on the Baltic coast, Gdansk is a hidden gem of Poland. There’s plenty of beautiful architecture rivalling that of Prague or Krakow, particularly along the Dlugi Targ (Long Market/Royal Way) which is home to many of the city’s main sights. St Katharine’s Church Tower is the perfect place for an aerial view of the city – it’s not the most common, so you won’t be bombarded by tourists, and instead of a gut-wrenching stone spiral staircase you climb wide metal steps, through rooms lit with colourful lights and exhibiting weapons and historical artefacts. For some traditional Polish cuisine try Bar Mleczny Neptun, a traditional ‘milk bar’ – set up after World War One as a way for Polish people to get nourishing meals at cheap prices.
